AMG looking to go smaller than C-Class?

b class 450x300 AMG looking to go smaller than C Class?

According to the crew at Inside Line, AMG may be looking into working its magic on a model below the current C-Class. While speaking at this year’s LA Auto Show, Ola Kaellenius, the head honcho of theMercedes-Benz go-fast division, said that while there isn’t much of a case for AMG-tweaked versions of the A- and B-Class right now, that may change in the next three to four years. That means that Mercedes-Benz would have to give the go-ahead on a much smaller high-performance engine than AMG’s current go-to 5.5-liter forced-induction V8, though Inside Line says that AMG has been working in that area already.

This is our excited face.

In addition to the good news about brawnier baby Benz models, Kaellenius also said that his brand will pursue reducing weight before sliding hybrid drivetrains into its products. That means that AMG is safe from dreaded battery packs – for now. Likewise, we can keep our ears pinned for news of two new Black Series cars sooner rather than later.

Mercedes G55 AMG Edition79 0 Dubai Show: Mercedes Benz G55 AMG Kompressor "Edition 79" Special
This year’s Dubai Motor Show appears to be all about special edition models aimed at wealthy Middle Eastern buyers. Together with the SLS AMG Desert Gold that we told you about in an earlier post, Mercedes-Benz also staged the premiere of the G55 AMG KOMPRESSOR “Edition 79″, which like the trio of Bugatti Veyron specials, is exclusively destined for the Middle East.

Named in reference to the sales start of the G series in 1979, the G55 AMG KOMPRESSOR “Edition 79″ will be built in a limited run of only 70 units.

Special features include the “designo magno alanite grey” matt paint finish which has been borrowed from the SLS AMG and is not normally available on the G-Class, crash bar at the front, carbon-look side trim strips, 19-inch AMG rims in a titanium finish and chromed protective grilles for the front indicators, tail lights and the underguard.

Inside, the limited run G55 AMG sports two-tone designo leather seats, carbon-fibre trim and the Edition logo “1 out of 79″ positioned in front of the selector lever.

Vath Lifts Performance of Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG to 745HP

VATH Mercedes CL65 AMG 0 Vath Lifts Performance of Mercedes Benz CL65 AMG to 745HP
German tuning firm Vath is upping the performance ante on the Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG once again with the release of a new package that increases power and gives the luxury coupe a more aggressive look. As if the standard Benz’s 612-horsepower twin-turbo V12 wasn’t already enough, Vath’s engine kit lifts output to 745HP and a spectacular 1,150Nm or 848 lb-ft of peak torque.

The tuner claims that with this package, the CL65 AMG can go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.0 seconds and reach speeds of up to 340 km/h or 211 mph. Even more impressive is the price of the kit that will cost you as much as a new C-Class at a hefty €36,890 or about US$53,100, including installation.

Other available performance mods include a sports braking system with 6 piston fixed calipers and 405 mm disks priced at €8,082 (US$11,600), 20-inch alloy wheels with Vredestein tires for speeds up to 270km/h or 168mph at €7,378 (US$10,600) and a lowering module for the airmatic suspension priced at €1,952 (US$2,800).

Cosmetic enhancements are limited to a subtle body kit with a carbon fiber front apron and rear diffuser fins, and boot lid and roof spoilers, which cost together €3,188 or about US$4,600.

Video: BMW M6 vs Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series

In this video the boyz at Edmund’s Insideline pit Mercedes’ brutal 507Hp 6.3-litre V8 powered CLK 63 AMG Black Series against BMW’s savvy-tech M6 Coupe which is fitted with the same 507Hp strong V10 engine that’s used in the M5. Theoretically, the CLK 63 AMG aims head straight at the forthcoming BMW M3 CSL, but with a hefty $136,000 price tag (vs $109,000 of the specific M6), the Benz hasn’t the comfort to choose with whom it competes with. However, judging from the video, the CLK 63 AMG Black Series gives the M6 more than it bargained for.

2008 Mercedes C63 AMG Video

Carscoop C63AMG 22 2008 Mercedes C63 AMG Video
Since we’ve played every kind of BMW E92 M3 video that you can think of, it’s only fair that we do the same with one of its arch rivals, the promising 2008 Mercedes C63 AMG. Yes, we know that the music background is utterly annoying and we too would have preferred to hear more of the 6.3-liter V8’s “drum and bass”, but we promise that we’ll return with a proper video sooner than you think. -Click “Read More…” below to see the video
