In what should be a surprise to no one, the 2011 Lincoln MKZ Gybrid has been officially certified by the EPA as the most fuel efficient luxury sedan in the U.S. market. Given that the MKZ is really little more than a very gussied up Ford Fusion Hybrid, including an identical powertrain, we fully expected the same 41 mile per gallon city and 36 mpg highway numbers for the Lincoln.

Those numbers put the MKZ well ahead of its closest competitor, the Lexus HS250h which is rated 35/34 mpg. Aside from some subtle badging, the MKZ Hybrid is indistinguishable from its conventional siblings. It does receive an enhanced version of the SmartGauge system in the Fusion that adds long-term fuel efficiency indicators to all of the other information available, however.

The MKZ Hybrid goes on sale in the Fall as Mercury Milan production winds down.

2011 Lincoln MKX with Fresh Looks, New 3.7-Liter V6 and Button-Free Environment Premieres in Detroit

FoMoCo lifted the covers off its heavily revised 2011 Lincoln MKX at the Detroit Auto Show today. Lincoln’s Ford Edge-based mid-size crossover has received a hefty makeover with new sheetmetal, a refreshed interior that ditches conventional buttons and knobs for an array of capacitive-touch controls, chassis improvements and a new 3.7-liter V7 engine.

From the outside, the 2011 model year MKX is recognizable by its MKT-inspired fascia with the huge split grille, the sculptured front wheel arches, the new tailgate and tail lamp assembly, and freshly designed alloy wheels.

The interior has also been revamped boasting a new design and upgraded materials and trim. However, the most significant change concerns the adoption of the firm’s “MyLincoln Touch” interface that replaces traditional vehicle buttons, knobs and gauges with LCD screens and touch-sensitive controls like those found on cell phones and MP3 players.

Underneath the hood, the MKX’s 3.5-liter V6 has been replaced by Ford’s new 3.7-liter V6 that is shared with the 2011 Mustang V6. It produces 305 horsepower and 280 ft.-lb. of torque and is linked to a six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission returning up to 25mpg on the highway.

Other improvements for the 2011 model year MKX include the more powerful four-wheel disc brakes, the retuned suspension and the addition of Hill Start Assist, which reduces rollback on hills and Trailer Sway Control, which provides greater towing stability when equipped with the available trailer tow package.

The 2011 Lincoln MKX will be built at Ford’s Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, with sales set to begin this summer.

Detroit Show: Lincoln's Ford Focus Based C-Concept with new 180HP 1.6-Liter Turbo

15z1849 Detroit Show: Lincoln's Ford Focus Based C Concept with new 180HP 1.6 Liter Turbo
Trying to appeal to a younger and more modern audience, Ford took the covers off the very European-esque, “Lincoln C” concept at the Detroit Show. The new baby Lincoln does not only look European -too be precise, it looks like a rejected Renault project…- but it is also based on the Euro-market Ford Focus platform using FoMoCo’s new 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine that delivers 180HP and 180 ft.-lbs. of torque. This is the first time that FoMoCo has publicly showed off this engine that will find its way under the hood of Euro-Fords like the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo in the very near future.

In the Lincoln C, the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine is paired with Ford’s all-new dry, dual-clutch PowerShift six-speed transmission, helping the concept achieve 43 mpg U.S. on the highway.

Open up the concept’s suicide doors and you’re welcomed by a contemporary and minimalistic interior. Among the car’s highlights is the Citroen-inspired, hubless steering wheel that offers the driver an unobstructed view of the instrument panel. According to Lincoln, thanks to the cars width -two inches more than conventional C-class vehicles- it offers the roominess of a 1961 Continental at almost half the length. In modern terms, the vehicle has the overall length of a Ford Focus and the overall width of a Lincoln MKZ.

According to Peter Horbury, FoMoCo’s executive director of Design, younger contemporary consumers in the U.S. have already grown accustomed to the notion of premium quality in a small package. “During the past decade, people have gotten used to the idea that you could pay more money for a smaller version of the real thing,” said Horbury, citing the evolution of music players from tapes to CDs to MP3 players as an example.

“The same philosophy can be applied to the automobile,” he added. “People will be happy to buy a smaller car that is better for the environment and more maneuverable in the city as long as the vehicle has all the attributes they want.”

5 Million Ford Owners Urged to Fix Hazardous Vehicles

Ford Recall F 150 5 Million Ford Owners Urged to Fix Hazardous Vehicles
Sometimes consumers are just asking for trouble. Take Ford’s humongous safety recall that affected about 12 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and passenger cars over a defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire (and has in more than 60 cases from August through February) at any time, even while the vehicle is turned-off, parked and unattended.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), of the 12 million vehicles involved in the recall, nearly five million have not yet been brought to Ford for repair, despite the multiple safety defect recall notifications from the automaker and the agency itself which issued its latest warning back in February! If you happen to own one of the affected cars/trucks mentioned in the list after the jump, we’d strongly advise you to take NHTSA’s warning seriously and bring your vehicle to a local dealership for a corrective repair.

eBay: Nation Lampoon’s Animal House Deathmobile Replica

Deathmobile 0 eBay: Nation Lampoon’s Animal House Deathmobile Replica
It may not be the original Deathmobile that starred in the 1978 hit comedy National Lampoon’s Animal House with the late John Belushi, but this replica that’s for sale on eBay is definitely an eye-catcher. Like the movie car, the Deathmobile replica is based on a 1960s Lincoln Continental and it has all the original features like the head of Emil Faber’s campus statue as a hood ornament, the large tower that displays the fraternity’s letters and the faux teeth and eyes in the front-end of the vehicle. Check out the image gallery along with the original trailer of the movie where you can get a look of the Deathmobile in action right after the jump
