VIDEO: Lotus Evora V6 3.5 276HP Test Drive in Scotland

Here’s one of the first videos of the Lotus Evora sports coupe that was filmed during the official press launch event in Scotland earlier this month. The first truly-new Lotus in almost 15 years is powered by a mid-mounted, Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 that cranks out 276HP at 6,400 rpm and 252 lbs-ft or 342Nm of torque at 4,700 rpm launching the coupe from rest to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 260 km/h or 162mph.

Priced between the Porsche Caymen and the 911, the Evora is offered as a strictly two-seater as well as a 2+2. European sales are set to start in late May with North America following in early 2010.

2010 Lotus Elise and Exige: Cleaner and More Fuel Efficient

wl23vp 2010 Lotus Elise and Exige: Cleaner and More Fuel Efficient
You’d think that, since the Elise and Exige models are pure-bred sportscars, Lotus wouldn’t care much about improving their eco-credentials. Well, apparently that’s not the case with Lotus as the British automaker has performed various tweaks on both cars’ powertrains and aerodynamics helping the 2010MY Elise and Exige give up to a 9% reduction in CO2 emissions and similar increases in fuel economy.

According to Lotus’ Spartan press release, on the combined cycle, the Elise S shows the greatest improvement in fuel efficiency offering an increase of 3.2mpg UK or 2.7mpg US (a decrease of 0.7 l/100km), from 34.0 mpg UK or 28.3 mpg US (8.3 l/100 km) to 37.mpg UK or 31mpg US (7.6 l/100km)

Mike Kimberley, CEO of Group Lotus plc, stated, “The Lotus philosophy of performance through light weight is even more relevant in today’s emission focused ecological world. This design philosophy has enabled Lotus to offer fantastic levels of performance, with Lotus cars being some of the greenest performance cars on the market”.

The new 2010 model year Elise and Exige are on sale now at Lotus dealers in the UK.

UK-Bound Kia Soul Tweaked by Lotus

xzmza UK Bound Kia Soul Tweaked by Lotus
Using another brand name to make your products appear more alluring and special is nothing new in the auto industry. But if there’s one brand that has no problem whatsoever associating its name with other carmakers, that has to be Lotus. In its latest venture, the British firm has lent a helping hand to Kia to fine-tune the UK market Soul crossover. Lotus has been working on the Soul since late 2008, customizing the overall suspension settings and bump stops for UK road conditions ahead of the crossover’s market launch in March.

This is the first time that Kia has developed a model specifically for UK roads and drivers in mind. “The result of our partnership with Lotus is a more composed ride which we think is much more suitable to what our roads can throw at Soul, and additionally, it is also a more exciting car to drive,” said Paul Philpott, Managing Director, Kia UK.
