Last Aussie Built Mitsubishi Auctioned for $100,000 AUD

MITSU Last Aussie Built Mitsubishi Auctioned for $100,000 AUD
In February this year, Mitsubishi Australia announced that it will close its Adelaide facility that manufactured the large-size 380 Sedan, thus eliminating its last Australian built product to move into a fully imported product line-up. The last Australian built Mitsubishi to roll-off the production line was a silver Platinum model 380 sedan.

The car was auctioned by Mitsubishi Australia last week. The winner was John Hughes, owner of a Mitsubishi dealership in Perth, WA who brought the last 380 Sedan for $100,000 AUD which is about $93,000 USD or €60,000. Mitsubishi said in a statement that the proceeds from the auction would be donated to charities to be named following consultation with the winning bidder.

Video Comparison: Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X vs BMW 135i Coupe

Theoretically, the BMW 135i Coupe isn’t the first car that comes up to mind as a competitor to the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X, however, we totally agree with the guys at Motor Trend that say that both vehicles are aimed towards driving enthusiasts and as such, everything goes.

In a nutshell, the 135i is a 2+2 rear-wheel drive coupe equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter straight-six developing 300Hp while the EVO X, a four-door sedan equipped with a high-tech all-wheel drive system and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. As usual, we won’t spoil the surprise by telling you who’s the winner in this comparison test.

BMW C.L.E.V.E.R. Concept

vzkfbs BMW C.L.E.V.E.R. Concept
BMW just released official pictures of its co-developed three-wheeled, natural-gas powered micro-car called CLEVER (Compact Low Emission VEhicle for URban Transport). Although nothing official yet, but this concept that was funded by the European Commission (Fifth Framework Programme) could base the C1 successor, marrying the worlds of cars and motorcycles. Partners in the C.L.E.V.E.R project included:

BMW
Technical University of Berlin, Institute for Land and Sea Transport (TUB), Berlin, Germany
Cooper-Avon Tyres Ltd, Melksham, Great Britain
ARC Leichtmetall Kompetenzzentrum Ranshofen GmbH (LKR), Ranshofen, Austria
IFP
TAKATA-PETRI AG, Berlin, Germany
University of Bath, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute for Power Transmission and Motion Control, Bath, Great Britain
Universität für Bodenkultur Vienna, Institute of Transport, Vienna, Austria
WEH GmbH, Illertissen, Germany

The CLEVER concept, a €3.3 million (US$3.9 million) effort, is an enclosed two-seater that combines the safety of a microcar, and the maneuverability of a motorcycle, while being less polluting than other vehicles as it runs on compressed natural gas.
Its strengthened frame will protect the driver in a crash and the vehicle will have a top speed of approximately 50 mph. The 230cc BMW engine—modified by Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) to use natural gas—produces 12.5 kW (17 hp) of power and maximum torque of 15.5 Nm at 6,300 rpm.

Fuel consumption is estimated to be 2.4 liters/100 km gasoline equivalent (98 mpg US), with 59.5 g/km of CO2 emissions. The compressed natural gas is stored in two removable gas bottles providing a range of 150 km (93 miles).

A problem with three-wheel vehicles with a symmetrical wheel layout is the tipping moment when cornering, which cannot be controlled at high speeds if the vehicle has a short wheelbase. To solve this problem the vehicle’s center of gravity can be moved towards the center of the corner—just as a motorcycle does when it corners.

The do this, the vehicle is a cabin tilter, with the system designed by the University of Bath. The cabin with the front wheel is connected to the power unit and the two rear wheels by a pivot bolt. The rotary movement of the cabin is produced by two hydraulic cylinders (actuators) that are installed between the cabin and the power unit. The actuators create the rotary angle of the cabin of +/-45° relative to the vertical power unit.

Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype-S Concept: Pre-Production Lancer Ralliart Hatch Pics Leaked

MitsPRT S 1 Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype S Concept: Pre Production Lancer Ralliart Hatch Pics Leaked
The first official images of the Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype-S have been leaked into the internet ahead of the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. More of a pre-production version than a concept, the Lancer Prototype-S previews the shape of the forthcoming Lancer Sportback (5door hatch) that’s expected to be introduced in the European market this summer.

In particular, the Prototype-S previews the Lancer Sportback Ralliart that will compoete head on with the Subaru Impreza WRX. Like the Lancer Sedan Ralliart that we saw in the Detroit Show, the Prototype-S is equipped with a detuned version of the EVO X’s 2.0-liter Turbo engine (delivering 240 PS and 343 Nm of torque) combined with a Twin Clutch SST gearbox and a full-time 4WD drivetrain featuring Mitsubishi Motors’ Active Center Differential.

If anything else, the Prototype-S’ mechanical specs sound very promising. Too bad we can’t say the same about the concept’s looks…

Chicago Preview: 2009 Mitsubishi Galant Facelift

Galant09 1 Chicago Preview: 2009 Mitsubishi Galant Facelift
Since there’s no press release to be found on Mitsubishi’s official sites, we’re guessing that the pictures of the revised 2009 Galant that you see here where apparently prematurely leaked into the internet. From what we gather, the most prominent changes concern the new front grille and bumper design along with the restyled rear-end that features longer tail-lamps and a new bumper. The 2009 Mitshubishi Galant will make its premiere at the Chicago Show next week.
