Peugeot ‘RC…’ Concept with 308 HP Hybrid Powertrain Coming to Paris

Peugeot RC 0 Peugeot ‘RC…’ Concept with 308 HP Hybrid Powertrain Coming to Paris
The ‘RC…’ is a new four-door coupe concept equipped with a hybrid powerplant from Peugeot that will be fully uncovered at the forthcoming Paris Auto Show in early October. The French automaker supports that the ‘RC…’, whose full name will be revealed at the show, is the missing link between the RC ‘Diamond’ and RC ‘Spade’ concept cars revealed in 2002 and the 2006 908 RC. Compared to the latter, the new RC looks sportier and better proportioned.

Although Peugeot has yet to reveal all the details, the French automaker said that the ‘RC…’ is equipped with a hybrid drivetrain that delivers a potent 308 HP (230 kW) and emissions of just of 109 g/km in the combined cycle or ZERO in electric mode. Even if the ‘RC…’ with its low-slung coupe-like stance is purely a study, many of its design elements like the new fascia and grille will most probably find their way into Peugeot’s next generation production models, including the new 407 and 607.

Peugeot UK offering Fuel Incentives on 308 Range

Peugeot 308 5d Peugeot UK offering Fuel Incentives on 308 Range
If they’re doing it here in the States where gasoline is still relatively cheap, it’s only logical that companies will offer fuel incentives to car buyers in Europe and especially in the UK where gas costs a pocket pinching £1.197 for a liter of petrol and £1.3325 for diesel. Peugeot UK on its behalf is offering £308 of free fuel for those who buy any model in the 308 range in August and September. According to the French carmaker, if the chosen version is a diesel HDi 90 model then it could mean that more than the first 3,000 miles are free while petrol versions would travel up to 2,500 miles.

Peugeot Design Competition : The 30 Finalists, Sort Of..

Peugeot Design Competition 0 Peugeot Design Competition : The 30 Finalists, Sort Of..
The 5th edition of Peugeot’s well-known Design Competition that was launched at the Beijing Motor Show on 20 April 2008 has entered its second phase with the release of the 29 projects (out of a total of 2,500) that made it the final round. You may wonder why 29 and not 30 projects as said in the title of the article. Well, although Peugeot supported in a previous press release that 30 design projects will make it the final round, we ‘only’ found 29 finalists at the dedicated minisite.

And while that may be an innocent ‘typo’, someone at Peugeot should take a look at the minisite since there seems to be some sort of problem as several design projects like the 1009 Concept from Edwin van der Mark and the Ego from Emre Yazici aren’t visible –we tried more than one browser without any luck. In any case, the next phase of the design competition will take place on September 16 with the announcement of the ten finalists selected by the jury.

On October 2, on the Peugeot stand at the Paris Motor Show, the French automaker will announce the name of the winning designer who will see his proposition produced in a 1:1 scale model and shown to the public in April 2009, at the Shanghai Motor Show in China.

Peugeot Previews 908 HDi Diesel – Electric Hybrid at Le Mans

Peugeot 908 Hybird 0 Peugeot Previews 908 HDi Diesel – Electric Hybrid at Le Mans
At the final round of the 2008 Le Mans Series at Silverstone on Saturday, September 13, Peugeot Sport presented an electric-hybrid version of its 908 HDi FAP diesel race car equipped with a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) similar to the one that’s being developed for Formula 1 cars. The 908HY was presented in a new silver-grey livery giving us a foretaste of what Peugeot’s next endurance racer could look like although its use will depend on the regulations that will govern LMP 1 cars from 2009.

The system comprises three key elements: a 60 kW gear-driven electric motor generator that replace the conventional starter motor, a set of 600 lithium-ion cells divided into 10 battery packs and an electronic power converter controlling the flow of energy between the batteries and the motor-generator. The 908 HDi HY can be powered in three different modes including electric-only when in pit-lane, only with the 5.5 liter V12 700 HP diesel engine or a combination of the two

The technology enables a proportion of the kinetic energy produced under braking to be recovered or stored enabling the vehicle’s efficiency to be improved in one of two ways: by enhancing performance thanks to an additional boost of 80 HP for approximately 20 sec per lap with no increase in the amount of energy consumed or, by reducing fuel consumption between 3 and five 5 percent for the same level of performance, thanks to the availability of stored mechanical energy.

“This hybrid 908 HDi FAP is in perfect keeping with the overall mission of our endurance racing programme which covers not only the challenge of competing, of course, but also the fact that as a car manufacturer we can use motor sport as a research and development tool for the Peugeot brand as a whole,” commented Peugeot Sport’s Director, Michel Barge.

“After innovating through the use of our HDi FAP technology in competition, running a hybrid car in endurance racing would give Peugeot a chance to gain extremely valuable experience that would benefit the development of production cars. Whether we use this technology or not in 2009 will obviously depend on the details of the new regulations published by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest,” he added.
