Historic Talbot 14/65 Boat Tail Tourer up for auction at Brooklands

01 talbot 630 450x252 Historic Talbot 14/65 Boat Tail Tourer up for auction at Brooklands

Here’s a rare slice of history. If you’ve got the means, you just might be able to pick up one very unique 1932 Talbot. The 14/65 Boat Tail Tourer is going up for auction at Brooklands on December 4. Built almost 80 years ago, the car was given its unique all-mahogany body work in 1969. The three inch by .25-inch planks were originally sourced from Honduras and make up the entire shell of the car, including the doors, hood and tail section. As you might have guessed, the bodywork was completely done by hand.

If you’re looking for the perfect blend of the nautical and automotive worlds, look no further. Brooklands expects this particular Talbot to go for a relatively reasonable £20,000-30,000. The auction house is quick to point out that if you were to build the car today, that’s roughly the cost of the woodwork alone. How’s that for a bargain? Hit the jump for the full press release.

Hyundai-Kia overtakes Toyota as biggest Asian automaker in Europe

hyundai 1290475021 450x298 Hyundai Kia overtakes Toyota as biggest Asian automaker in Europe

European car buyers have a favorite Asian automaker, and its name is no longer Toyota. Hyundai and Kiahave tag-teamed to best the longtime Japanese automaker, with a four percent overall rise in total units through the first ten months of 2010. During that same period, Toyota-Lexus sales have fallen 17 percent, with Hyundai at 521,369 vehicles sold compared to 511,754 for Toyota.

Toyota’s recent tough road, along with the expanding number of quality offerings from Hyundai-Kia, have allowed the Seoul train to slide past the Japanese brand. Unless Toyota picks up the pace, that gap could widen because the Korean company is understood to have a greater number of new models planned for its European portfolio.

Of course, Hyundai has a long road ahead if it wishes to make the same claim here in the States, but it’s certainly moving in the right direction. Overall sales in the U.S. have risen 21 percent and demand for the redesigned Sonata has jumped 64 percent.

Video: Jay Leno’s Garage welcomes the Jaguar C-X75 concept

jay leno with jaguar c x75 450x257 Video: Jay Lenos Garage welcomes the Jaguar C X75 concept

Here’s another feather for Jay Leno’s cap. The Tonight Show host can officially say that he is one of only a handful of drivers to have slipped their way behind the wheel of the amazing Jaguar C-X75 concept from this year’s Paris Motor Show. Penned by design guru Ian Callum, the supercar is as sexy as it is advanced. The vehicle gets its power from a quartet of electric motors that are good for 195 horsepower each. Throw in two small turbine engines for generating power and you’ve got one very unconventional extended-range hybrid.

The C-X75 was designed to celebrate the Leaping Cat’s diamond anniversary, and as such, the company pulled all the stops. With a design that pulls from the most successful points in Jaguar history, the car is nothing short of gorgeous. Will it make it to production? We’re not sure, but for the moment, you can hit the jump to watch Leno take it all in – and don’t forget to watch for an appearance by Callum, too.

Car and Driver 2011 10 Best winners announced

cd 630 450x300 Car and Driver 2011 10 Best winners announced

Car and Driver has just released its annual list of top 10 vehicles for 2011. Populated by plenty of familiar faces like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Honda Accord and Porsche Boxster, this year’s 10 Best won’t bring too many surprises to the table. The newcomers to the crowd won’t exactly raise any eyebrows, either. TheChevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata and Volkswagen Golf (the GTI did make it last year) are all solid, common-sense picks in our eyes.

Of course, some of the old guard had to fall off to make room for the new metal, and as such, the Audi S4,Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mazda3 are nowhere to be found.

It’s worth noting that the inclusion of the Chevy Volt marks the first time that an electric-powered car has ever made the cut, though it’s unlikely to be the last. Check out our gallery of the winners below, then hit the jumpto have a look at the full press release.

Video: Luca di Montezemolo drives the New Stratos

stratos 630 450x232 Video: Luca di Montezemolo drives the New Stratos

Don’t let anyone tell you that Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo can’t drive. The boss of one of the world’s most exclusive supercar brands recently took the time to hot-shoe the resurrected Stratos around the Fiorano race track in Italy. While watching a brand executive put a car through its paces is rare enough, it’s even more surprising to hear di Montezemolo heap praise on a vehicle without a Prancing Horse on the hood, even if there’s a 4.3-liter Ferrari V8 at the heart of the new car.

Throw in the fact that the new interpretation of one of Italy’s most iconic rally heathens looks and sounds the part, and you’ve got all the makings of juicy video clip.

Have we mentioned just how badly we want one of these? Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself.
